Santa Claus is a mythical figure in the folklore of many cultures who distributes presents to children, usually in the evening of Christmas Eve. Santa Claus is an important part of Christmas tradition of Western civilization, as well as in Latin America, Japan and other parts of East Asia.
ORIGIN
All modern versions of Santa Claus come from the same historical personage, the bishop St. Nicholas of Myra in the city of Myra (ancient city of modern Turkey), of which it is said that, being a Bishop, urged all the other priests of his diocese to spread Christianity where the children were unable or unwilling to even go to church because of the cold winter, which forced many to leave the house. So he urged them, telling them to go to the children by bringing them a gift and take this opportunity to explain who he was and what Christ had done for the whole humanity. The priests brought with them a bag full of gifts, the children reached through a number of sled dogs (not reindeer). The legend of St. Nicholas is the foundation of this great Dutch Sinterklaas (the birthday of the Holy), which, in turn, gave rise to the myth and the name of Santa Claus in its many variations.
